Restorative dentistry is an umbrella term. It includes various dental procedures and options that allow people who have broken teeth or lost teeth to disease, aging, or accident have full, natural-looking smiles once again. If you are a person who’s got missing or broken teeth, a Bensalem dentist can help you find which restorative dental options would be right for you. Let’s look at what’s available.

 **Types Of Restorative Dental Procedures**

The number of lost teeth and their location will help the dentist decide which procedure or procedures are right for each client. Procedures can include:

 **Crowns**

Crowns are used when other ways of dental restoration like fillings won’t work. Crowns use various materials to rebuild the tooth and give it back its original size and shape.

Porcelain is the most common and popular option for a crown material. It’s chosen due to its beauty and durability. Besides repairing and rebuilding teeth, crowns are also used as part of installing bridges.

 **Bridges**

Bridges are used if there is a tooth or teeth missing. This procedure lets the patient avoid surgical implants or the necessity of wearing dentures. Bridges are attached in different ways depending on the surrounding teeth.

*Fixed bridges* are used when one tooth is missing. The teeth on either side are given crowns and the crowns hold the bridge.

*Cantilever bridges* are used if there is a tooth only on one side of the missing tooth.

*Maryland bridges* are used when the front teeth are missing. The bridge will be attached to the remaining teeth using metal bands and resin that match the tooth color of the patient.

 **Dental Implants**

Dental implants are a surgical option. If a person is missing numerous teeth, or they wish to pursue a more permanent and stable option, they may choose implants. With dental implants, a titanium post is installed into the jawbone. An abutment is put over the top of the post. A crown will then be added to the abutment to complete the procedure. If a patient wishes to proceed with this option, their jawbone and their overall gum health will need to be assessed by their dental care professional.

 **Benefits Of Restorative Dentistry**
